Import Regulations in Netherlands

An import declaration is required for goods from third countries such as the U.S. When goods are imported into the Netherlands, it is the responsibility of the importer or his authorized agent to declare them to Customs. A Single Administrative Document or SAD is used for this purpose.

The prohibited goods are the following: drugs, firearms, ammunition flammable products, pornography and (parts of) protected animals (both subject to license). Alcohol may be imported but is subject to full duties and taxes.

The following are some of the documents that are needed when importing into the Netherlands: commercial invoice, customs value declaration, freight insurance, customs import declaration (SAD form), freight documents, packing list, certificate of origin, insurance certificate, VI1 certificate.

The Netherlands has (as a member of the Europian Union) one of the lowest average custom duties with 4,17%.

Here is a list of some of the labeling requirements for products being imported into the Netherlands: name under which the product is sold, list of ingredients, net quantity of pre-packaged beverage in metric units, date of minimum durability consisting of day, month and year, any special conditions for keeping and use, name or business name and address of the manufacturer, packager or importer established in the EU, place of origin or provenance, instructions of use, indication of the acquired alcoholic strength, lot marking on pre-packaged beverages.
