Never bring into Namibia prohibited goods such as narcotics, illegal drugs in any form, automatic weapons, military weapons, unnumbered weapons, poison and toxic substances. And also never bring into Namibia any restricted goods such as endangered species and firearms - provided you are in possession of the necessary authorisation / permit.
There are also specific groups of products requiring import permits, of which the following are not automatically granted: medicine and related substances, chemicals, frozen, chilled fish and meat, including game, live animals and genetic materials, pornographic materials, controlled agronomic and petroleum products, firearms, explosives, coins, diamond, gold, and other minerals, and all second hand and used goods such as used clothes and vehicles.
Here the list of required documents needed for international shipping to Namibia: Commerical invoice, Bill of lading, Packing list, SED (shipments over $2500). Other documents: certificate of origin (upon request) and sanitary and health certificates for plant and animal products.
Taxes and Import Duties Most of imports from outside SACU are subject to high import tariffs. These tariffs include a basic customs duty and, in cases of luxury items, an additional scaled tax. An Additional Sales Duty (ASD) is levied on all imports to Namibia. ASD changes between 0 and 15 % and is like to a luxury tax. A General Sales Tax (GST) of 8 % is also levied at the point of final sale. Both the ASD and the GST are similar to a Value Added Tax.
Export controls are maintained on exotic and indigenous live animals (e.g. ostriches) but not on general manufactured products. The regulations of the South African Bureau of Standards are still followed by Namibia for labeling requirements and other manufacturing standards. These regulations are consistent with international requirements and standards. |
