Import Regulations in Chad Republic

The majority of products can be imported without restrictions, but all imports are subject to import licensing on a quota principles. Imports of wheat, wheat and sugar require licences regardless of the country of origin. Licences are valid for shipments within six months from date of issue. They can also be extended for a six more months.

Prohibited Imports: arms and munitions; pornography; narcotics and illegal drugs and explosives. Live animals have to be vaccinated and accompanied by an international (national) vaccination card.

Import Documentation (preferably in French or with French translation): commercial invoice (4 copies), certificate of origin (2 copies), packing list, bill of lading (airway bill).
Special import certification is required for pharmaceutical products.

Import Tariffs
There is a 5 % duty on essential commodities, 10 % on raw materials and capital products, 20 % on intermediate and heterogeneous products, and 30 % on consumer products. Duty rate is applied on CIF.
Additional Import Taxes are imposed on imports: 18.7 % value added tax on CIF; 4 % IRPP (Impots sur le Revenu du Personne Physique); 2 % information or statistical tax (taxe d'information).

Labeling/Marking
Currently, there are no special requirements concerning the country of origin markings. Computer hardware and software, televisions, advanced technology products and appliances made in the United States should have service instructions and guarantees in French and (or) Arabic since ultimate consumers may not be able to read English.

There are no special requirements concerning language marking on imported or regional food items. Production dates and shelf life are controlled. In spite of it, a certain amount of smuggled goods without expiration dates are in the market.
